What is Truth, Part 2

Camp Shiloh      -

What is Truth, Part 2

“What is Truth?” Part 2

“Judgement begins with the house of God” (I Peter 4:17).

Accordingly, Jesus is a hard reality for us as Christians to bump up against in this way, and we frequently do, and can at times, feel nearly crushed by it. However, He knows what He’s doing, and, in the midst of all the refining fires, chastisements and reproofs, He sends seasons of refreshment to us as well. We can be so thankful that we know something of His ways, that we have the truth of his Word to guide us and through it and with the assurance that His everlasting arms are beneath us.

Meanwhile, the Lord rides forth conquering, and in His conquests, in the midst of many judgments, He calls his people out of darkness and into His marvelous Light. There was once a lot of light in this nation, when people intimately understood God’s ways, but much less so now. This nation – especially our young people – are no longer interested or concerned with truth except as it is defined exclusively in terms of themselves: “MY truth.”

Americans, as a rule, and especially we as American Christians, continue to do everything we possibly can to maximize our pleasure and minimize any pain, but we who know Him well, understand that “success” in such selfish pursuits is a sure sign of trouble to those He will absolutely ignore and mock. Our sanctification is priority number one with Him. You can believe this because this is HIS Truth and not MY truth.

“You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free”, is a very rich promise. It is real freedom, but it costs us dearly, and at a very steep price, and nothing at all like what the world supposes true freedom to be, but I’ll take it! “In His Light, we see light.”

Pilate had the Truth staring him right in his face, but couldn’t see it: relativism carried the day. Christ’s Truth stares me in the face all the time too, and yet, I often miss Him for the same reason. I wonder at the fact that, while He gave Pilate over to darkness so easily, ultimately, he refuses to give us over to it… What a Savior we have in the Truth that is our one and only God.
